St. John's water
A RURAL TRADITION
The night of San Lorenzo is considered a magical night, herbs and flowers are collected after sunset and you can choose between different aromatic herbs and flowers such as: lavender, hypericum (not surprisingly known as St. John's wort), rosemary, poppy , chamomile, rose, mint and mugwort.
The water mixture is prepared on the evening of June 23, collecting the dew.
A bowl full of water must be filled and the collected booty must be left to soak for the whole night.
The following morning, it is customary to wash with St. John's water to purify yourself. It is also said to bring love, luck and health.
In this belief Christianity, paganism and superstitions are intertwined.
