BARBIE

The famous doll "Barbie", was born from an idea of Ruth Handler, who often noticed how the daughter played with newborn dolls but attributed to them adult roles.

Together with her husband, she began to design the first model of dolls, which came out in 1959, dressed in a zebra suit and black hair.

"Mattel", which was born as a brand of photo frames, began to become more and more a brand interested in toys.



Sales increased over time, and the company felt the need to expand Barbie's story, giving her a real story.

New characters were introduced, including several sisters such as "Skipper", or "Ken", Barbie's boyfriend and the male doll par excellence,  signed Mattel.

Dolls were created for different ethnicities, cultures, professions; so as to be more and more adaptable to different countries. 

Like the full name of Barbie, "Barbara Millicent Roberts", is a tribute to the daughter of the creator of the brand, as well as that of "Ken", born from the name "Kenneth", another son of the Handler family.

To date, Barbie has become a real landmark among the game lines and much more.



Mattel has also been able to work in other fields, such as film..

The latest project is the 2023 film "Barbie", starring Margot Robbie, which is hidden in the shoes of the famous doll ; thus helping to give a new vision of this brand.


Come to think of it, it's amazing how everything was born thanks to the intuition of a mother!
