Santarcangelo of Romagna
The medieval citadel of Santarcangelo can be pleasantly visited by all, with its stairways and uphill streets.
Santarcangelo and the underground city
The medieval village of Santarcangelo stands on a real underground city, hidden and mysterious made of tunnels, wells, galleries and imposing circular halls.
In the Middle Ages the population was often plundered and to ensure their survival, they had to strive to build 150 caves, 300 granaries, iceboxes and secret escape routes.
There are numerous cellars that have been created for the conservation of wine.
A visit to the monumental public cave is not to be missed, where guides accompany visitors and tell ancient legends and tales.
The caves can only be entered if accompanied, for safety reasons.
Food and wine
Walking through the narrow streets of the town it is still possible to see how fresh pasta is made with a rolling pin right in front of you, as well as the piadina and bread to be stuffed in a thousand; the Friday market offers only foodstuffs: from cheeses to honey, porchetta, fried fish to be eaten even in foil; fruits and vegetables. On Saturday morning there is the 0 km market, it is smaller but highly sought after in the proposal.
