Lo Palio de lo Daino
The Palio del Daino, celebrated every year in August, is an event all based on the challenge between the 4 districts of the town: Borgo, Castle, Contado and Montebello; who compete to the sound of games, challenges, medieval and renaissance tenzas to win the coveted palio in the splendid Piazza Maggiore.
The latter is simply one of Romagna's most beautiful squares, dating back to the 1800s and called Piazza Padella by its inhabitants because of its semicircular shape on which the town's main avenue is set.
As you stroll through the streets you will be pervaded by dulcet Renaissance melodies and you can watch artisans at work intent on working with metals, textiles, glass, leather and paper.
There are also several representations of the "craft of war," all to be discovered by wandering through the encampments present.
There is certainly no shortage of taverns and taverns to enjoy, as the famous saying goes, "cibo giusto et salutare de l'anima e de lo corpo" in which the scenic setting is truly amazing, throughout the village is a continuous coming and going of parades in splendid Renaissance costumes, shows with jugglers, minstrels, crossbowmen, fakirs, swordsmen, witches, stilt walkers and whoever else puts on for a stunning show that gives tourists and locals excitement every year.
Thanks to this event, the small village of Mondaino thus becomes for 4 days the home of a fascinating magical atmosphere that takes visitors through a journey into the past exploring the world on which our roots were once founded.
Moreover, the town itself presents an immense wealth in terms of its historical and artistic heritage, such as the Rocca Malatestiana, the Piazza Maggiore, the Convento delle Clarisse, the parish church of S. Michele, the Museums, Porta Marina and the former Franciscan Convent of Monte Formosino.
For the organization of this event, groups of very young volunteers, aged between 14 and 18, have been involved in the organization of the event in recent months, making themselves available even on weekends.
