HOME MADE ORGANIC SOAP
Created by the master soapmakers of Aleppo, Syria, since ancient times, this personal hygiene soap would have a year of seasoning.
But here we offer you a simple (and faster) recipe to prepare it at home.
But first some curiosities and warnings about this wonderful soap: it is made with olive oil and the precious laurel oils, the first archaeological evidence of Aleppo soap dates back to 2500 BC.
It is recommended to follow the recipe and the doses of caustic soda; preparing a soap is a chemical process so protect yourself with special glasses, gloves and mask, also protect the surface on which you work.
INGREDIENTS:
900g of extra virgin olive oil
leaves and laurel berries at will
114g of caustic soda
256g of water
METHOD:
1 - Prepare the bay leaf oil by putting fresh leaves and berries in the cold oil. Cook in a double boiler over low heat for 3 hours.
2 - Put the leaves in a colander and let the oil drain overnight.
3 - The next day, filter the oil.
4 - Put the soda in the water (not vice versa): you will have a clear and warm solution. Pour it into 900g of laurel oil (if it's not 900g add oil). Mix with the blender on low speed until you get a cream.
5 - Transfer to the mold (wooden or plastic, no iron), cover with plastic wrap for 24 hours and let it cool under a wool blanket. After 24 hours, remove the film and let it rest for another 24 hours under the blanket.
6 - Cut the dough and let it mature for 40/50 days on a tray wrapped in a cotton cloth; turn the soaps from time to time.
