DAY OF THE CAT
For twenty years now, August 8 has been the World Cat Day, established by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which brings together various animal welfare associations.
This day aims to raise awareness among humans on the frailties of cats in a difficult month, that of August, in which there are many abandonments.
The opportunities for care and refuge offered by associations are often severely tested.
A statistic shows that to date the cats present in the homes of the Italians would be 7.3 million.
Italy, after Germany, is the fourth European country with the most cats.
The highest boom in abandonments and returns to kennels and catteries occurred after the end of the lockdown.
In Italy, moreover, there is no obligation to register cats in the national registry, in fact for this very reason many cats do not have a microchip and therefore it is not possible to trace them and lead to an increase in loss and stray animals.
